Diabetes is a disorder characterised by increased blood sugar levels resulting from insufficient or missing insulin production and the body's decreased ability to use insulin. Type 1 diabetes is diagnosed most often in children and young adults, but can occur at all ages. In type 1 diabetes, the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas are destroyed and no insulin, or too little insulin, is produced. To control blood sugar levels, daily injections of insulin are required for life.
Type 2 diabetes typically occurs in adults over 40 years of age. In type 2 diabetes the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, and the insulin is not used effectively in the body. While diet and exercise are the foundation for controlling blood sugar levels, most people with type 2 diabetes also require treatment with tablets and insulin.
Novo Nordisk offers the broadest portfolio of diabetes products in the industry and an extensive range of user-friendly pen devices for injecting insulin.
